State-of-the-Art Controlled Substance Storage in Melbourne
World
Courier is expanding our ability to store globally controlled substances for
worldwide clinical trials and commercial distribution through the introduction
of a custom, controlled-substances vault.
This new state-of-the-art innovation resides
at our Melbourne facility, one of World Courier’s 14 investigational depots
worldwide, and has been developed to provide customers with vital services for
both commercial and clinical supply chain storage and inventory management.
How it
does this
The vault significantly increases our
ability to store controlled materials. It has the capacity to hold 120 pallets,
as well as to accommodate different study profiles based on kit size and
volume, ranging from full pallet to quarter pallet. It also offers multi-level
push-back racking as well as supports two temperature ranges: controlled
ambient (+15 to +25 degrees Celsius) and refrigerated (+2 to +8 degrees
Celsius).
To ensure complete efficacy and
integrity of all substances maintained within the vault, the facility features
back-up alarm systems that monitor temperature, security and validated storage
areas for products in varying temperature ranges including controlled ambient,
refrigerated, frozen, deep frozen and liquid nitrogen.
“With
this expansion of infrastructure we are enhancing our support for customers’
clinical trial and commercial third-party logistics needs,” World Courier
President Sam Herbert said. “The increased storage capacity, coupled with our
integrated service offerings, strengthens our position as a best-in-class
specialty logistics provider both domestically and internationally, and it
helps our customers continue improving patient care and creating better
business outcomes.”
Ensuring
compliance
Melbourne is the first facility
within World Courier’s network of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant
drug depots to install a controlled substances vault. This five-sided modular facility
complies with all of the requirements outlined in Australia’s Department of
Health & Human Services’ Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances
Regulations.
World Courier are now significantly better
positioned to support Australia’s state-mandated controlled substance programs.
This allows us to continue to support clinical trials and contribute to moving pharmaceutical
research forward with the aim of preserving patient well-being.
