World Courier has invested in our Turkish operations to support the continuous growth of the clinical trial and healthcare market

Following a successful 10 years in Istanbul, World Courier’s transport office moves location in December, optimally positioned for the new airport. Construction of the new GMP depot on the same site is well underway, with a planned opening in July 2020 for clinical trial and commercial drug storage and distribution services.

Through customer feedback and market analysis, World Courier recognised the challenges that sponsors and manufacturers can encounter managing the GDP-compliant clinical and commercial supply chain in Turkey, and in setting up logistics platforms that can scale quickly. Often for IMP and commercial specialty products, there are strict time and temperature requirements which necessitate short-term storage close to the manufacturer or clinical sites.

“Utilising a single GDP-compliant specialty logistics partner allows sponsors and manufacturers to mitigate risk by reducing the number of sub-contractors in their clinical and commercial drug supply chain,” said Jens Mattuschka, VP for Nordics, Central and Eastern Europe at World Courier.

Turkey is a very attractive market for patient recruitment into clinical trials. “Pooling IMP inventory in-country in World Courier’s GMP depot will increase access to patients, reduce stock-out risks and provide sponsors with more confidence to support clinical trials in Turkey.”

World Courier will be the first international company to provide clinical storage and distribution services in Turkey. The depot can also provide storage for medical devices, advanced therapy medicinal products, cells or tissue etc. Combined with existing transport capabilities, this will allow customers more control, flexibility and agility through the supply chain.
