Packaging innovation reduces DELO's carbon footprint

By World Courier

Discover how DELO, in partnership with World Courier, achieved significant environmental and process improvements through innovative packaging solutions.

DELO, a world leader in high-tech bonding solutions, partnered with World Courier to revolutionize their packaging and transportation processes. This case study highlights significant process improvements, cost savings, and environmental benefits achieved through innovative packaging solutions.

By collaborating with World Courier they achieved:

  • A reduced carbon footprint
  • Efficient storage and transportation oh valuable materials
  • Creation of time-saving processes

The situation

DELO aimed to enhance its processes for storing and transporting industrial high-value, deep-frozen adhesives from Germany to locations across Asia including Shanghai, Seoul, and Singapore. The previous logistics provider used single-use Styrofoam boxes with dry ice, which required extensive warehouse space for packaging storage and special safety regulations for the dry ice. This approach was neither time-efficient nor eco-friendly.

The solution

World Courier introduced DELO to Cocoon – a multi-use, reusable passive packaging solution for pallet-sized shipments. With proprietary thermal containers and a global logistics network in place, World Courier was able to provide secure volume cold storage shipping at various temperature ranges. This system ensured precise temperature control, real-time location monitoring, and customizable options for safe transit of delicate materials worldwide.

The outcome

The logistics solution designed for DELO achieved:

  • Smaller warehousing requirements — Cocoon is far more space-efficient than boxes and dry ice.
  • Reduced packaging preparation and fulfillment time.
  • A temperature range optimal for the product.
  • Reduced waste from packaging due to reusability.
  • Reduced carbon emissions in shipping due to space efficiency of Cocoon technology.
  • Improved health and safety throughout the supply chain by eliminating hazardous substances like dry ice.
