WORLD COURIER GERMANY’S Mobil-für-Kids PROGRAM AIDS “AT RISK” YOUTH
DÜSSELDORF,
Germany, January 31, 2005—The third year of World Courier
Germany’s generous Mobil-für-Kids
campaign has proven to be its best yet, with the combined calendar sales and
corporate contribution netting € 30,780 (US $40,000) for 12 children’s homes
located throughout Germany.
The program was first launched in 2002 when, in
the wake of 9/11, World Courier Germany replaced its traditional client
Christmas campaign with charitable donations to 12 local children’s homes, made
on behalf of the company’s customers.
In 2003, Mobil-für-Kids
was expanded to include a calendar competition in which the children submitted
drawings and paintings for selection in the company’s annual corporate
calendar. The wall-sized calendars are then sold to clients, suppliers, staff
and friends of World Courier, with proceeds being distributed among the 12
homes. All production services including design, printing, promotion,
distribution and web site are provided by World Courier and its suppliers on a
complimentary basis, with 100% of sales going directly to the beneficiaries.
“We chose one children’s home in each of the
cities where we have an office or representation,” says Managing Director Klaus
Hachmann. The homes – located in Berlin, Bremen, Dresden, Düsseldorf,
Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Köln, Leipzig, Munich, Nurnberg and Stuttgart –
are all independent and were selected without regard to religious, state, or
private affiliations. “We just chose facilities that we felt were doing good
work and were creating positive influences in the lives of local children,”
says Mr. Hachmann.
In keeping with government regulations, all
private donations must be earmarked for initiatives that directly benefit the
children. This year’s World Courier funding will go towards the equipping of a
hobby room at one location, for the building of a wheelchair ramp at another,
and to finance small holiday trips for the children elsewhere. In all, more
than 1,000 children ranging in age from six to 18 benefit from Mobil-für-Kids each year.
“Many people think that if kids are sent to
these types of institutions, it’s the end of the road,” says Mr. Hachmann. “In
fact, we have seen that just the opposite is true – those who make it to these
places are the ones who are saved. It is really touching to see what they are
able to do for these children, and we are glad that we – along with our
customers – are able to make a contribution.”
