WORLD COURIER ATTAINS UPGRADED ISO 9001:2000 CERTIFICATION

STAMFORD, Connecticut, May 21, 2001--Although the newest ISO standard was only introduced in December 2000, World Courier met updated accreditation criteria and completed the required assessment in just three months, receiving global ISO 9001:2000 certification in March 2001. The company is the first to be awarded this esteemed designation by the U.K.-based management consulting firm QMS International plc.

Over the past decade, ISO has become the standard for consistency and excellence across many industries. Firms typically devote enormous amounts of time, energy and resources in pursuit of this customer-focused credential. In order to qualify for certification, internal operating procedures must be clearly identified, stringently developed and meticulously documented to ensure conformity across all parts of the organization at all times. Regular audits ensure that operating practices remain relevant and are fully understood and properly executed by staff at every level to assure the highest level of customer service.

"One of the reasons we were able to complete this upgrade process so quickly was the readiness of our individual offices," says company President and CEO Wayne B. Heyland of Stamford. "Our efficiency in earning this accreditation demonstrates the strong communications capabilities and responsiveness that we possess throughout the network which is fundamental to the way we do business."

World Courier first began the process of attaining individual ISO 9002 certification for its more than 100 offices in 1995. "We believe that ISO reinforces our commitment to consistently deliver innovative transportation solutions that meet our clients' need for speed, security and reliability," says Mr. Heyland. "Although our reputation speaks for itself, ISO offers clients an important reassurance that their time-critical or temperature-sensitive shipments will be handled with the same care and diligence irrespective of whether they are shipped from New York, Delhi or Beijing."

ISO regulations are set by an international standards committee and are updated every seven years. In this newest version of ISO, earlier designations of 9001 and 9002 have been combined under a single standard, referred to as simply 9001.
