Global pharmaceutical companies fuel surge in China outsourcing;
World Courier fills service and informational void
World Courier seminar to showcase cost benefits of conducting clinical trials
and pharmaceutical research in China
as market value tops US $15 billion
BEIJING (China),
May 13, 2009—High research and development costs in developed
countries have sparked growing interest in China
where clinical trials can cost 30 per cent less than in the United States and where drug development can
total just 10 per cent of western spending, reports Allen Yan, General Manager
for World Courier (Shanghai)
Co. Ltd.
Currently
representing a US $15 billion market for pharmaceutical products, China is
on track to become the world's fifth largest single pharmaceutical market by
2010. “The biopharm industry in China has
exploded by 20 per cent in just the past five years,” says Mr. Yan. “At World
Courier, our aim is to bridge the gaps in service and infrastructure to meet demand
from global pharmaceutical companies choosing to conduct more cost-effective
research in China.”
As part of its strategy to improve access to China’s vast pharmaceutical market, World
Courier has already developed an extensive domestic network of 43 cities within
China
and opened a GMP-compliant investigational drug storage facility in response to
unprecedented industry demand. This June, the company will host its 18th
International Seminar on Global Clinical Trial Management and Pharmaceutical
R&D in Beijing to help foster
industry awareness of the challenges and benefits of outsourcing to China.
This important professional conference – to be
delivered in China
for the first time – is scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2009 at the China World Hotel Beijing. Bringing
together senior pharmaceutical executives and practitioners, industry leaders
and government officials, key topics for discussion will include regulatory
concerns, drug development facilitation, and conducting trials in emerging
markets such as China, India and East Asia.
“There is marked demand for information about the
pharmaceutical industry in China,”
concludes Mr. Yan. “Western pharmaceutical companies can benefit greatly from
outsourcing to China,
particularly in today’s economic climate. But while it may be very cost
effective to conduct clinical trials here, practitioners must understand the
challenges of doing business in China.
Our goal is to share our knowledge of this exciting market and opportunity.”
